 - Challenges, Tips & Stories

Even though I’ve only been streaming since fall of 2020, I already have some challenges that I’ve either completed (Hoarders, I’m looking at you here..) or retired. Any of these has a chance of being resurrected at any time, so I figured writing a little bit about each of them was probably a good idea.

I am including this challenge in the list because it has, indeed, been played largely on camera. This is a challenge I am currently writing by request from a community member, who is helping me test and brainstorm rules (the current rules are here). Basically, it’s a challenge based on the Cottage Living pack, and farming. You start your Sim with the bare minimum to survive, and – through maxing skills, making money, and doing errands (among other things) – you slowly unlock new things. Unlockables include crops, the ability to build an outhouse, then a cabin, and eventually turning it into a luxurious mansion. I would not call this an easy challenge by any means, but it’s a fun one, none-the-less. I do not play this one in the rotation of challenges: rather, I play this when I need a break from the other challenges, or I am at a point in the writing where I need help.

This is a challenge I have always wanted to play (as far back as Sims 2!), but have never had the guts to try. So, after the Chaos Wheel Challenge and having so much fun involving chat into the game play, I decided that – for my halloween 2021 stream, I would create an interactive version of the Asylum Challenge and play it on screen. It was SO much fun that it became a channel staple and is played every Wednesday night. I will be creating a solo version of this challenge for everyone else to play, as well, so keep your eye out for that to happen fairly soon.

The above shot is the Asylum I originally built for this challenge in particular, but it turned out it was laggy and had all sorts of “zooming” camera issues due to the ward being on the third floor. I have since built a new one. I have also built a “Halfway House” for Phase two of the challenge, and will be building a starter home for the Sims to move to for phase 3 (which will be played differently from the rest of the challenge). More info on that once we finish testing and writing the Phase Two rules.

This is a challenge I had been looking at for quite a while, and had originally intended to play it off-camera on my own. It’s by faerie tempest, and you can find the rules here. However, I started it on-screen on a lark after Cottage Living came out, and I feel obligated to continue it in the same way because so many of my viewers got truly attached to this little family. After a vote, where this challenge was voted the challenge everyone wanted to see come back the most, I will be adding this into the rotation. It will come in after the Not So Berry Challenge.

Basically, this is a Decades Challenge with slightly different rules, and a different perspective on the history. It also starts farther back in history, so we are currently in 1876. I really love this family, however, so it will most definitely be a challenge I look forward to playing whenever it comes up in the rotation!

This was originally started because I needed a different sort of challenge to play on Wednesday nights. This is a challenge based on the seven deadly sins, and is all about your sims misbehaving. You can find the rules by Daisy Dezem here. For instance, in the first generation, your sim cannot EVER use a “friendly” interaction. And for each generation, you must get at least one negative Parenthood teen trait. This makes gameplay extremely interesting to me. My son originally found this challenge for me, and I started a playthrough of it at his apartment while I was keeping him company after his car accident last year. I liked it so much that I then brought the challenge home, and decided to restart it on stream. Being that I now do an interactive Asylum challenge on Wednesday nights, however, I need to find another time to play this. In all likelihood, I will be incorporating it into the rotation on Thursdays and Fridays.

For a long time, I had been opposed to starting a challenge like Not So Berry, and I don’t know why. After starting this one on my channel, I discovered that I found it a bit too easy.. And I have ended up adding goals to the 10 original generations in the challenge rules, and adding 20+ generations after those to include the rest of the packs that the original rules don’t cover. See my version of the challenge here to check it out.

I have had a lot of fun with this challenge despite being reluctant to start it. We have flown through the generations, and are currently in between gen five (Plum) and gen six (Orange). This challenge is in the rotation right after Timeline Adventure.

This was the second challenge I started on stream. It coincided with me writing my updated “Hard Mode” Decades Challenge, and is using that rule set. So there are a lot of rolls, and dying sims for various reasons. I’m also 100% using MC Command Center to its full potential, and I allowed the family to grow quite a bit past that 8 Sim limit. This challenge started with Jesse marrying Sarah (with both of them having full families in the save), and starting their family and farm from scratch. Sarah ended up dying in childbirth (due to a roll), so Jesse hired a local woman to help with the children while he looked for a new wife. (per rules). There was a chat vote, and Jesse ended up marrying Annabella – a local widow with two children of her own. Jesse and Annabella had quite a number of more kids, and Jesse did his best to help raise Annabella’s two older children. The eldest moved out and got married, and now has children of her own. I also do rolls and makeovers for all extended family in the save, which is complicated and requires a full spreadsheet to keep track of, but it’s been fun. I only actually PLAY the main family, but I am present for all Try for Babies, Births, and weddings in the family.

As I believe I mentioned, when I started streaming, this was the challenge I started with. It’s a “test” playthrough of a challenge I wrote called the Timeline Adventure Challenge. It has been a super fun playthrough for the most part, with a lot of surprises along the way. (Like triplets in the Stone Age – that all grew up to roll fussy as toddlers…!!!) The player below has my currently uploaded VODs in a playlist of just this challenge – so if you’re interested, feel free to watch!

With all that being said, I will be adding more information to this page, as well as some more pictures, but doing a full page write-up on the challenge wasn’t really something on my to-do list for the site relaunch. (In other words, I’ll get to it.)

As much as I love building, in a way, I love gameplay more. So it only makes sense that I tend towards playing gameplay challenges on stream. I have found a certain freedom in doing challenges on-screen, because it means it’s captured for all time whether or not I took pictures or notes. I have even done some of my blogged challenges on stream, trying to remember to take pictures, then publishing them later… but I’ve found that harder to do than one would think. The difficulty is in remembering to take the pictures while concentrating on playing and interacting with chat at the same time. I am trying to get caught up on publishing my old recorded videos on these challenges to youtube so everyone can see where each challenge started from, but there’s a lot to go through, and setting things up is time-consuming. (More on that on my youtube page.)

On these pages, I’m going to write up descriptions on each challenge, and where it came from, hopefully adding more info as time goes on. I will also link the youtube playlist of the beginning of each challenge. Of all these challenges, only one of them can be considered “complete” – and that one may get a reprise eventually (the Hoarders challenge). The rest have quite a ways to go. I try to rotate between the most important ones on my “Sims Challenge” stream days (Currently – Thursday and Fridays). Some are currently retired, or were just temporary challenges – and a couple of those I didn’t even bother listing. (The Dream Home Decorator rags to riches I started at one point is the one that comes to mind here.) For obvious reasons, this list may change at any given time, but I’ll try to keep it up to date.

I am a 47 year old American wife, mother, and gamer. I’ve lived in the Midwest most of my life, and enjoy it for the changing seasons. My favorite movie is Labyrinth, my favorite game is Sims 4, and I have tattoos related to both. My favorite colors are purple, red, and green. When I’m not playing games (which is rare) I also enjoy reading and crafting. I’m also an animal lover, and have had many types of pets over the years. Currently, I have a dog named Cassie who is a Jack Russel / Beagle mix and five young fancy rats (all of whom are rescues). I run this Sims 4 Blog where I post screenshots and stories about the different challenges I play. Also here are the Sims 4 challenges I've written, and a place for me to store all the Sims 4 knowledge I've gotten over the years. I am also a Sims 4/variety streamer on Twitch for my mental health, fun, and to meet new people. I am also in the EA Creator Network and an Ubisoft Partner, which is a dream come true! I look forward to meeting you!
