Back to this family’s introduction | On to Week Two

And we’re back to my townie rotation. This is a short week for these guys, because they just kept doing the same things over and over again. But that’s ok. That means I get back to Master Simmer that much faster.

The first thing I did was update the house a bit, because starting a family right away sounds like a good idea… and I felt that putting a door on the bedroom was essential. To do the update, I had to move the whole lot to the front a bit, but that’s okay.

I end up adding other things to the house, too, but that’s later.

Getting to know each other. EA may say these guys are a couple, but they start in my game as mere housemates.

Holly just wasn’t having any of it. We had to be good friends before the Romance socials would work.

Post first-woohoo getting a job. He looks rather overwhelmed.

Since he wants to be a musician, and he’s kinda rock and roll looking, I get him the Grim’s Guitar, which I rarely use.. and let him get to work.

Holly’s back up, so for picture sake I get them dressed again, and get the conversation/kissing going…

… And he says no. What the heck?! Things are just not working out for these two. We’ll try again later.

Meanwhile, I send our resident fisher-sim, Holly, out fishing.

… She clearly needs practice.

Our first fish! Happens to be a goldfish, but she looks pleased with herself all the same.

Finally. I had him ask this time, and it worked out better.

Married!

No baby first try. Too bad.

It’s Springfest, so Mr. Glutton Bjorn is baking cookies. Seemed like he would be the chef for the household, so I went with it.

“Hooray! I found eggs!” I love her hot weather outfit.

Finally! Baby on the way! Not that you can tell with as slender as Holly is.

Evening fishing. It’s probably a lot cooler and more pleasant out there.

He needs to listen to music for his aspiration, so we add another couple things to the house. Clearly, the stereo is a hit because it’s already in use.

Pregnancy cravings + cookies in the fridge = cookies for Holly.

She’s still fishing, though. Even if she has to waddle down the hill to get to the stream.

He’s getting better. Slightly. Then he gets tense because of his “Loves Outdoors”…

… So I send him down to join his wife.

Bjorn.. dancing is clearly not your thing. Holly, however, is hungry .. again.

I finally get tired of the same thing day after day and buy him a workout machine.

Love Day. So easy to celebrate.. but since she’s due any moment, I avoid the date part of it.

Holly finds the workout machine.. and complains about it the whole time.

So I hire a nanny.. and Nanny Gandhi shows up again. Apparently he’s popular in Oasis Springs.

… And Holly goes to fish. I love the lights reflecting in the water.

Yep, that’s where the bottle goes. Now, figure out how to change that stinky diaper.

Oh… joy. I wish they hadn’t changed the vampires, I miss the fact that they actually DID something when they broke in. Now they just daze you and you can go right back to bed. It’s very lame.

Dinner together. For a change.

The bedroom upgrade.

Bathroom also gets an upgrade. Toddlers need baths. And that bathroom needed another door.

And that’s the end of this week. I had fun with this family.. for some reason, more fun than I had with the last one … I still have no idea why. But moving on. Now I get to go play Master Simmer!

Welcome back! I’ll preface this chapter by saying that I thought I took more pictures than this. I swore I took a million pictures, but apparently I was so overwhelmed that I didn’t. You’ll see why in a minute. LOL.

We start the pictures with another house call. This guy’s gloves cracked me up.

The dreaded treadmill test.. again.

Surgery. With a sandwich? Really, Alan? That doesn’t seem very professional…

Checking the baby’s gender. Alan says it’s a girl. Which makes me all kinds of happy… for a little while.

Sigh. It’s a girl all right. Two of them. YIKES! And we still have a toddler in the house! I foresee a lot of fails…. Oh yeah, and their names are Brittney and Becca. I almost forgot. I had a terrible time picking a girl’s “B” name, and then the second one popped up. I was not particularly happy then.. LOL.

Ashley’s such a good mommy.

Teaching Branden some skills so maybe he’ll be easier to take care of.

She cleans the sink for me so I’m not mad at her anymore. Hard to be mad at a sim who autonomously cleans.

Another house call at work.

Another surgery. This time he leaves the grilled cheese at home.

Ashley just watching the bath. You could help out, you know. Now that there’s THREE kids!

I re-did Alan and Andrew’s teen room for the girls.

“I know, I know, the last thing I need is a new challenge. But this one I want to write a story about. I’m really bad at it, but I want to give it a try anyway, because I found this challenge and it really sparked my imagination for a change.” …That’s all I wrote about this challenge before I was drawn right into playing it, and apparently I never got back to finishing an appropriate introduction. So here we go:

This, at its heart, is a dark story about a man who has lost everything more than once, and is trying to find his way in the world through all the hardships. But, then, what Vampire story isn’t dark, right? I will say there may be triggers in this story, so read at your own risk. I do try to note which chapters have them, though.

The sky here is dark, and brooding, just like me. I am Dušan Bratan, and my name means “Soul Brother” in Slavic. The trees whisper in the wind, belying the stillness I feel all around me. As I stand here and study the landscape, I reminisce about how I got here. It hasn’t been painless, and it wasn’t an easy decision. All my life, my mother, Miluša, was my guide. My rudder. I never felt lost with her around. I don’t remember my father, so she was all I had. It was just the two of us, against the world – partners in crime, I guess you could say. I told her everything, and I always felt like she listened. Then, shortly before I came of age, she passed away very suddenly. I felt lost, bereft, empty. I finished my high school days in a perpetual fog, my safe little life cut short. I turned away from what friends I had, and trudged day by day through the rest of school, confused and afraid of what might be to come.

Finally, at the last minute, something occurred to me. I remembered the stories my mother had always told me as a child. Stories about where she came from, her family and the idyllic life she’d had growing up. Until the fire. Even though I felt my life had been destroyed, she had been through worse. Her family, her home, her everything had been lost in one fell swoop and she had been uprooted, brought here away from all that she knew. If she had made it.. than so could I. I knew what I needed to do. I needed to get her – and my – heritage back.

With a little research, I was able to find the town she had come from. Forgotten Hollow, it was called. The land she had grown up on was still there. Still vacant. …. And for sale.

So I sold everything she had left me, and carefully counted out the funds required to purchase it. I was left with next to nothing, but it was enough to buy a tent and a cooler that I stocked with food for a couple weeks. It took two days of travel to get here, and it gave me a lot of time to think. To plan. To dream of the mansion I would build, the woman I would marry, and love for the rest of my life. I imagined the daughter I would pass it all down to, the family I would have, the way I would tell them all about the amazing woman my mother had been.

Then I looked around again. Really looked. I had nothing. No mansion, just a tent and a cooler. A few hundred dollars to my name, and no way to make more money. All the hope I had been feeling left my body in a rush. I felt like crying… standing here without even a chair to sit on, utterly alone. Even the trees stood together, mocking me in my solitude. I stood there for a long time, tears welling in my eyes. I had nothing left. I plopped down on my cooler and cursed at myself in frustration.

Unbidden, a picture of my mother came to mind. I couldn’t give up now. When you hit rock bottom, I guess there’s no where to go but up. It’s in my blood to be here on this land, and I certainly don’t have much, but that will change. Mother survived, and so will I. I have faith. I am not sure what I’ll do to make money, but I will figure it out. First things first. I decide to explore the countryside around me, see what I can find to sell. Maybe an idea will come to me.

Dance-off! I can assure you, neither Karson nor Eva will win this contest, since neither had dancing skill prior to this party.

Break time. Shortly after this, the party ends and we head home.

… I’m sure a bad cow plant parent. I swear, they always die.

The smallest room in the house, and everyone has to crowd into it.

Another upgrade. We give up on the table for now, since nobody seems to want it. Perhaps they’ll use the bar, instead.

Holiday with the drinking tradition. I think it’s Summerfest? We completely “flubbed” Children’s Day earlier in the week.. but without any kids, it seemed funny to celebrate. Jack is learning to sit in the background of this shot.

Watching sports. On another note. I’ve recently found out I’m probably one of the only simmers that thinks the My First Pet Stuff is their favorite stuff pack.. but I adore this fishy table. .. And the rest of the pack.

Yay! A place to sit! And they’re using it!

Someone else likes the new couch, it seems.

Karson’s Adult birthday. That means Eva’s is right around the corner.. and with Fall starting tomorrow…. I hope it’s a good time for a baby. I hope this isn’t either going to be too early or too late.. but next update we’ll definitely see the heir arrive.

For now, however, it’s lights out on another Rambler update. A boring one, but an update none-the-less.

Well, here we are again. Very little to do left on goals.. so last time I got Heidi preggo again. I think the only things I have left are a tiny bit on Heidi’s job until her promotion, Three aspirations to finish for Ashlie, and one scouting badge for Aiden. The young scientist one.. and he only needs two programming sessions for that one. So that shouldn’t take long at all.

Awww. And I’m going to stop this here. Have one more week of play before the next generation, but it’s probably going to be pretty boring, since I have all my goals finished. But then.. sims can and will surprise you, so who knows.

Back to my townie save. I don’t know why, but I had a hard time getting into this week.. despite the fact that I love Stephen and Johnny..

First order of business: get Stephen a job. He joins the Culinary career. Also of note: I loaded in to Johnny being blue with cold, so that’s why he’s wearing his outerwear in these first few screenies. Also bought them a thermostat.

Next order of business: starting their family. I planned on just getting them a little baby boy, but it didn’t exactly turn out that way.

Then: I do some house updating… (that computer was the first addition..)

.. Then the mixology bar.

… A double bed was necessary.

… And a kid’s room….

So we can welcome little Melvin … and baby Caiphus. I kept their names.. and Melvin was just too adorable to not say “yes” to two kids. Insta-family!

He makes a great addition!

Melvin needs to be inspired, so cloudgazing is where he heads off to.

Nanny Gandhi shows up while the Daddies are at work. He spends all his time cleaning house.. and cooking.. which is funny, because the fridge is well-stocked. Why did we need more food??

Caiphus’ first time in the chair.. and last time for the week, I think. He usually grabs whatever is laying around.

“Is anyone looking?”

The dreaded bunny-monster. I think Melvin honestly drew my son’s real-life rabbit. Including the poof of hair on it’s head.

“Caiphus, you can’t just wander around without clothes in the wintertime.” … “Why not?”

It’s New Year’s Eve, and Stephen is already dazed from coffee.. yet he’s drinking more.

We’re back! I have been so bust with my drifters I completely forgot that I 1, had an alien in the house, and 2, had a baby that was going to be a toddler soon. … And then there’s the little fact that I promised my MacRae’s there would always be a girl and a boy for each generation, so we need to make more babies. Well, on to the game play.

Work. I’m still not sure what to think about the doctor career. I don’t particularly like having to look up the diseases to get them right.

Alan’s first surgery attempt – he’s still only an R.N. so I’m not sure why they’d allow him into the tools. My diagnoses was wrong, though, so the surgery failed.

Work is never over, even when he’s home.

Ashley! I thought I said to take care of yourself. And there went my points. -5

There. Much better. Sleeping in the bed is so much more comfortable, right?

Gratuitous picture of Branden being exiled to the hallway. Not because of the next picture, but because he’s so fussy he won’t let his mommy sleep! I put some thought into converting Maeve’s old single bedroom to a nursery.. but I didn’t do it this update. Maybe next one.

I make Alan take a sleep replacer, because he wasn’t going to make it through the day.

And.. drumroll.. he’s officially a doctor now!

Yup.. there’s the high chair. And they’re actually eating together. Amazing.

Poor Ashley is just exhausted ALL the time. I feel kinda bad for getting her pregnant again, and kinda hope the next one’s a girl so I don’t have to do it again.

This time, she’s watching human weather TV. She seems fascinated with Earth weather. Then again, being from Sixam, you would think she would be.

Welcome back! As I said last post, I played two weeks in one session, so this is the second half of that session.

And.. since Eva’s at “Field Agent” (Level 4), as per the rules, I took a break to build a gym. I called it Jasper Fitness Center for some unknown reason.. was just the first name that occurred to me. It’s on the gallery under #drifterchallenge if you’re interested in it.

I really like the way it turned out.

And to start the post… turns out our favorite vampire from the second half of house 7 is still around. This totally cracked me up. Again!

Springfest. They hunt for eggs, and talk to the Flower Bunny, do some cleaning.. and generally enjoy the holiday.

This never ends. I’m telling you. Poor Eva. If it’s not the garden, it’s repairing stuff.

The lottery’s in town. Spoiler: neither of them win.

Karson.. you ever think you might want to help out around the house??

A very rainy spice fest. We go to get plants.. and then literally run home.

Adopting a puppy! Since she’s a Dog Lover, I promised her a puppy this round, so here he is.

He’s Stubborn, Aggressive, and Hairy. All things that should be bad.. but makes him unique. And what a face.

His first Simstagram photo. Too bad you can’t see him. LOL.

There. now we can see him. After Eva gets to know him, Karson leaves his Charisma practice and comes to chat to the puppy, so everyone is friends.

Awww. I haven’t bought him a bed yet. But at least the humans have a new bed! They have a fridge and counter, too.. but that’s another story for another day.

House 008 Chapter 9 < | > House 009 Chapter 2

Welcome to house 9! I am SOOO excited to start a new house, it’s crazy. The last house took so long. By the end I wanted to just tear my hair out. *smile* – kidding.. kind of. Anyway. So here we are.

First thing I do is move out Eva, send her on a trip through CAS.. because the pearls in the hair thing is just not going to fly with me. And some of her outfits are just bad. As a reminder, she’s a Dog Lover, Art Lover, and Self-Absorbed… and her aspiration is Freelance Botanist.

Then, we make our “Secondary Sim” ..

… What a weird mix of traits. Clearly, since they’re both Self-Absorbed, they were meant to be together.

Third, we check on our goals:

They shouldn’t be too bad. Although that Level 11 of Villain career scares me a little bit. Only the two main sims are controllable, which is not a surprise, but it will be weird to go back to that after this last house. It’ll be nice to add a new commercial lot to the world, though.

Fourth, We check on the current status of Eva:

Her traits are amazing! .. Except for that little Self-Absorbed.

I brought this with her. it’s $22.

Skills.. not too bad. Not great, either… but it’ll work.

And lastly: we give both of them their secret agent careers.. which gives Eva some money for her two instant promotions.. so I immediately deduct 22 for her journal I’m keeping from when she was a kid.

And now.. it’s time, finally, to play. Let’s let these two get to know each other a little bit, then I’ll send one of them out to gather in the area, because, let’s be fair, they need money. Badly. Because winter is coming (and that’s not a Game of Thrones reference!) .. and I don’t want them to freeze with no place to live.

Finally. A pretty day for gathering. It’s Karson’s turn this time.

But poor Eva gets a My Sim doll. Sigh.

Is it me.. or does this “Santa” seem awfully skinny? Oh yeah, and if you look closely… there’s been some changes for Winterfest.
