Chapter One – Starting Anew

Here I am. Standing beside my suitcase on the side of the road, in front of a plot of land with a mailbox on it. And… that’s it. That’s my home. I spent my last Simoleons to get here, and buy this land. I was given a small “stipend” when I was kicked out of the Foster Care system at 18. I mean, sure they also gave me the rest of stuff my Foster Parents had had in “storage” for me… which included this box I’m holding. I haven’t had the guts to open it yet. It’s addressed in a kid’s handwriting “FOR FUTURE ME” with sloppy instructions to never open before I’m an adult. Which.. I guess I technically am now. Peering up and down the street, I wonder who my neighbors are. Will they be nice? Will they be rude? Will they be those crazy neighbors you hear tell of?

The street is silent. There are no people in sight. There’s also nothing to DO. Nothing to eat. Nowhere to take a shower or pee… and nowhere to sleep. Wait. perhaps that bench over there will work for sleeping. Sighing, I look back at the box in my hand. It’s not a very BIG box… and there’s definitely something with some weight to it inside it.

With a complete lack of ideas for what to do, I rip open the top of the box… and a yellowed envelope falls out. Surprised, I reach down to grab it before it flies away. Again, it’s addressed to “FUTURE ME.”

Welcome to my brand-new story! And yes, this DOES mean that I’m coming back to blogging (on a more limited basis). I was inspired by a challenge being written by a friend of mine, and simply could not … NOT make a Sim and get started. Where this story is going, only the Sim Gods know. But for now, it’s where my brain is at. So… welcome to my newest story!

The Challenge & The Premise

So what was it that got my attention? Probably the restrictions and difficulty level. Because, see, I’m playing this challenge absolutely Vanilla. No Mods (except maybe build mods). No CC. And – even worse…. For the first generation, I only have Stuff packs and kits installed. Period. No Expansions, no Game Packs. They’re not even activated for this playthrough. That means all those skills – gone. Seasons – nope. Careers? – heck no. Not even the clothes. Oh yeah, and to make it worse? I have to start with ZERO simoleons. On a blank lot. And yes, the candy on top of this sundae is that I’ve decided I will be telling this whole thing as a STORY. So, if this type of torture appeals to you, read on!

So here’s the story… I read the challenge (as I do, I tend to find new challenges and read them for ideas to store in my memory bank for later…) .. and was immediately drawn into it. I tried to ignore it. I tried to move on, get back to work on other things. It just didn’t work. I ended up almost immediately making a sim for this challenge, and within two days… I had played three or four days of her life already, faithfully taking screenshots.

Then came the difficult part… finding a background angle. I had bits of it. I had her fascination with makeup, and why. I also had a basic direction her story was going to go in. But to finalize it… to write it.. I had to finish her background story. Which was harder than I figured it would be. I ended up taking part in a brainstorming sesh with a friend of mine on our sims stories, and we fleshed out the idea. So here she is. Meet Persephone. Percy to her friends… and basically everyone else.

These are stories set in the modern-day. The only ones posted here are ones that will be continuing or ones that are currently being worked on. At present, there are two of them listed.

The first one, Adventures with Jaz — is currently (as of 2/26) being re-worked, and re-written into a Simstagram story. I will leave the original story up, but the main page for it may change to reflect the direction the story is going.

The second story is BRAND NEW as of this February 2026 update to this page, and is a Challenge-based playthrough that I’m writing as a story. It is my NEWEST blog story, and the only current blog story (until I fix the older ones that will be continuing). The founder is also this page’s featured image.

Hello! I am sorry I’ve been sort of MIA recently. Partially it’s been because of health issues – both mental and physical, partially because I’ve just been so busy, and in a large part because of the blow that finding out all the images were messed up on my stories did to me. I truly just didn’t know what to do about it. For that matter, I’m still not sure exactly what I’ll be doing about the large part of them. HOWEVER – I have finally taken the time to assess exactly what’s wrong with them, and what it will need to fix them. (More on that below.) Health issues, as well, have been solved, and things are once again going really well for me. I have also mostly concluded a major “upgrade” to my streaming and filming set-up, which was the large part of being too busy to even consider what was going on with my website. With this “upgrade” in its finishing stages, I feel like I really am in need of doing some serious assessing and updating/upgrading on this website…. so, without any further blabbering from me, here’s the updates:

Finally finding a time when the living room computer was free, Marlin sat down, and looked around almost guiltily. He hadn’t felt safe trying to writing with anyone nearby in the house, so he had waited until he could find a rare moment alone. His brother Milo was at the library, his sister was out with her friend Riley, Dad was at a work meeting, and his mom was in the backyard in her garden while trying to watch his toddler brother, Timon, who was playing in the sandbox. And his new baby sisters… were actually sleeping for a change, in his parent’s bedroom. He was supposed to be listening for them to wake up from their nap so he could tell his mom they were up, but this had seemed like the perfect opportunity to write a letter to his new pen-pal.

Nervously, he clicked on the letter from Caelan, and re-read it for the hundredth time. He didn’t want to forget anything. Then, with a gulp, Marlin clicked back to the “new message” window on the browser, and hesitantly started typing.

Hi Caelan!

I'm so glad you wrote to me. Finding a new friend is so exciting, but somehow also terrifying, you know? I'm sorry you and your siblings are all having to live apart for now. I hope it isn't going to last forever. I can't imagine not seeing my family every day after school. In fact, my parents have had two new babies since the last time I wrote you - which is part of why it took me so long to write back. New babies - especially twins - seem to take up the whole family's time in a big hurry. They're both girls, and they're so cute... but they're definitely too small to play with yet. The most I'm allowed to do is talk to them, and what I'm doing now - which is waiting for them to wake up from their afternoon nap so I can tell Mom they're awake again.

How exciting to have a new hairstyle! Is it long, or short, or somewhere in between? I keep mine kind of long, because I love the way it swishes when I move, but most my friends at school tease me about it. I don't understand why. Maybe it's just because I'm a little bit different. I definitely don't understand why "different" seems to also mean "bad" for some people, but it is.

Sighing, and looking around, Marlin wondered what else to say. He had no idea how long he had to actually write before his baby sisters woke up, but he felt he should say at least SOMETHING else. Hearing some crunching noises, he turned to look to the other side of the room, and smiled to himself. Laika was eating some of her dinner, but, apparently sensing Marlin’s gaze, looked up with her one green eye.

Marlin turned back to his letter, and started writing again.

I don't like thinking about other people's opinions of me, so I guess I'll change the subject to something more fun. My dog, Laika, had been living at my friend Rowan's house for a while. (I think I mentioned them in the last letter - they're the one who talked me into signing up for this penpal thing.) With the new babies, we had to find a new place to live. Our old house was just too small for all of us. I can't imagine having as many siblings as you have. How did you all fit into one house?? Now that we're in our new house - which is still kind of an old house - Laika has finally been able to come home. I missed her so much. Sometimes I feel like she's the only person around here that I can really talk to - even though she's not really a person. At least she listens - and doesn't tease me for being different. She's kind of different, too. I've never met another dog that has two different colored eyes. She's a lot of fun to play with, too. She likes chasing balls, and I'm trying to teach her some new tricks. My parents taught her to lay down and sit, but those aren't really fun tricks. I hope I can teach her to roll over or beg or something. I think that would be really cool, don't you?

Suddenly, Marlin noticed the first sounds of the twins stirring in his parent’s room, and realized he needed to wrap up this letter fast. Grabbing his phone, he scrolled through his latest photos until he found a good one of him and Laika from yesterday when Laika had finally come home. Quickly, he uploaded the photo, attached it to the letter, and put his phone back down to finish typing.

This is a picture from last night when Laika finally got to come home. Isn't she such a pretty dog? Her fur is very soft, and she likes wearing her little bandana. I think it makes her feel like one of us humans. However, I need to go, the babies are waking up. I can't wait to see a picture of your new hair! I hope you like it as much as I like my hair. It's awful to feel like you don't like something about yourself! I hope your violin lessons go great, and I'm super glad your therapist asked you to sign up for a penpal. It will be such fun to get to know each other without worrying about fitting in!

Talk to you later,
Marlin

Sighing, Marlin read over the letter quickly, checking for spelling errors, then nervously hit the “send message” button. The little spinny indicator spun around for a few moments, then the “Message Sent Successfully!” pop up showed up. Signing out of the site carefully, Marlin closed down the computer, and called to Laika. It was time to go get Mom from the backyard.

Now, history has always been one of my favorite subjects in school, and it’s remained a fascination as I’ve gotten older. So it only makes sense that a good portion of my stories are based in history – even as far back as the Stone Ages. It’s also a good bet that I’ll eventually add to this total, as well.

Currently, my most in-depth story of this bunch is A Tangled Yarn, which is a Decades challenge that I have really gotten attached to. It’s also one of my toughest story to write, because it often requires several different “photo shoots” per chapter, rather than just photos taken through gameplay. I also have a Simerican Settlers challenge in The McPherson Mess, and a historian-difficulty History Challenge story called Island Spirits. Island Spirits also holds the distinction of being my ONLY story to have its own spin-off. I fell in love with a “spare” child in Island Spirits, and at the same time had been contemplating starting a story-based playthrough of my Timeline Adventure Challenge… so it only made sense to have Saazul set off on her own and start a new story. This story, as opposed to most of my other stories.. will be heavily “decorated” with period CC and mods. As a rule, I don’t use CC, but I decided very early on in planning this story that this one would be different. I wanted the immersion and the “props” to go with the story. This story will differ from the others in one other key way – it will be played LIVE on Twitch and Youtube. For more information, see The Timeline Children page!

I hope you find something here to enjoy!

I’ve never thought of myself as particularly interested in the occult, but it so happens… I have quite a number of Sims Stories that are based on Occult sims. So perhaps I should redefine interest in the occult…? Anyway, These have been some of my more popular stories, and I thoroughly enjoy writing them.

This series of stories started with Tails of Sulani, my Mermaid Legacy, way back when Island Living first came out. When Spellcasters came out, Broomstick Files also became a thing. Somewhere in there, I also ran across an inspiring Vampire challenge, and Foreshadowed Sunset was born. Of the three, Foreshadowed Sunset is the one with the darkest occult themes, and probably ought to come with a content warning. Tails of Sulani is told journal-style from the matriarch’s point of view, and is mostly lighthearted family fun, as is Broomstick Files. My newest occult story, Luna’s Lunacy, is based on the new werewolves, and will probably need content warnings as well on some chapters. Why don’t I have an alien or a ghost story? Who knows. But that could change! I hope you enjoy!

As some of you have known, I’ve been struggling with writer’s block for a while. Then, recently, I was contacted about adopting an orphaned & abandoned challenge. My first instinct was to say no, I have more than enough on my plate at the moment. However, upon perusing the original challenge rules, I was hit with a wave of inspiration. Therefore, it quickly became obvious to me that I did need to adopt the challenge, and – for that matter – I also needed to start my own attempt at it. So that’s where this is coming from.

The challenge is called the “Build a World Challenge” and it is 100% up my alley. It’s complicated, long, and difficult. I have begun the painstaking work of updating and adapting the challenge, but I couldn’t resist starting the challenge while my inspiration was hot. Hence, I will not be providing the rules right away, because they’re still in progress. I will provide a link to the previous rules, and my version is coming – but it’s going to be a MONSTER to finish. (Previous rules: pdf here / spreadsheet here) Basically, the premise of the challenge is that you start with one sims world at a time, and eventually fill your entire save, including the “locked” and “secret” lots with your own sims and builds. This is done by “unlocking” lots and actions and careers – basically everything – by completing skills and aspirations (among other things). For example, the required starting community lot for Oasis Springs is a Fishing Spot Lot (Park lot), and it takes getting three sims to max fishing to unlock it.

BAW Challenge Page | New Start – Part 2

River stared bleakly at the pile of bills on his grandfather’s table. If only he’d known how much trouble the old man was really in… ? He paused, then shook his head. No. If he’d known, he would have never proposed to Raven, the girl he’d loved from afar for as long as he could remember. And he couldn’t imagine his life without her sunshine in it. For a long moment, he sat there with a dopey smile on his face… then he again shook his head.

His whole life, he had assumed he would take over the reins, as it were, of his grandfather’s farm. Mom had moved him to the city when he was young and his good-for-nothing father had abandoned them, but he had always known the country was where he belonged. Now… Mom was gone. And so was his grandfather. River squinted while looking out the dingy, cracked window at the dust storm brewing. This land was spent. There was nothing left here except a mounded pile of cascading debt.

What was he going to do now? Desolate and desperately thirsty, he walked back outside and hopped on his second-hand motorcycle. It was a long ride into what was considered “town” in these parts, but it was blessedly cool with the wind ruffling his hair, and the machine humming raggedly beneath him.

He paused at the town’s one stop light… and glanced around. It didn’t look like he was going to be holding up traffic by sitting here longer than he should, and he was at a loss of where to go. Finally, the choking dust at the back of his throat reminded him of why he’d ridden into town in the first place. Across the street, a blinking light showed a general store that was open for business. Perhaps they had something cool to drink.

I am a 47 year old American wife, mother, and gamer. I’ve lived in the Midwest most of my life, and enjoy it for the changing seasons. My favorite movie is Labyrinth, my favorite game is Sims 4, and I have tattoos related to both. My favorite colors are purple, red, and green. When I’m not playing games (which is rare) I also enjoy reading and crafting. I’m also an animal lover, and have had many types of pets over the years. Currently, I have a dog named Cassie who is a Jack Russel / Beagle mix and five young fancy rats (all of whom are rescues). I run this Sims 4 Blog where I post screenshots and stories about the different challenges I play. Also here are the Sims 4 challenges I've written, and a place for me to store all the Sims 4 knowledge I've gotten over the years. I am also a Sims 4/variety streamer on Twitch for my mental health, fun, and to meet new people. I am also in the EA Creator Network and an Ubisoft Partner, which is a dream come true! I look forward to meeting you!
