Generation 2: Tiny Cabin in the Woods

At the beginning of this Generation:

  • Build or download a pub lot for one of the empty lots in Finchwick. This is the only lot you will be adding. (unless you build your parents their own home). This will mean you can now buy meals necessary for errands from the pub.
  • Remove the “Creepy Crawlies” Lot Challenge. You deserve the break.
  • Add in the “Christmas” Holiday to your game on Wednesday of Winter. This comes with a day off, and should include the traditions of Decorating (Winterfest style), Father Winter, Festive Spirit, Attend Holiday Ceremony, and Open Gifts
  • Place three more farm plots in your garden (You will have to figure out how to split your current and new crops between the nine total plots you now have.)
  • Reset your count of completed errands. You start from 0 each generation.
  • Reset your family funds to 0 (but keep everything you’ve built and the items saved up in your treasure chest)
  • Reset your count of ribbons earned to 0.
  • You are now allowed to Buy Starter Vegetable, Herb, and Fruit Seeds, as well as Oversized Lettuce Seeds
  • You now have the ability to enter Finchwick Fair with either your oversized lettuce or one of your garden harvestables. However, you are not allowed to bribe the judge in any way!

Generation Goals:

  • Get married and have at least 2 children
  • Raise your heir to young adult stage
  • Complete all the unlockables for the generation

Unlockables for this Generation:

  • Buying, Selling, and Using fertilizers. (this means that you can use the crops you have unlocked as fertilizer, or the fertilizer for the oversized crops. It does not unlock using anything that is still locked as fertilizer) Max Gardening skill on your main sim.
  • Outhouse Expansion – can be expanded to 3 by 3 and the tub can be moved there – Complete 5 errands and have 1000 in the bank. (will cost about 300)
  • Ability to build a pond on your land – once unlocked, you have the ability to hunt for frogs in your pond, as well as breeding and selling said frogs – Max fishing on your main sim and pay 1500 simoleons from your budget. (Use the money cheat for this)
  • Purchasing wild Animal homes – Complete 5 errands for the creature keeper PER HOME and be friends with at least 1 fox, one flock of birds, and 1 bunny (400 simoleons per home)
  • Small Orchard – starting with space for 2 trees, add 2 trees per future generation unless otherwise noted (this allows you to plant two trees outside of your garden plots). Complete 5 errands for the garden store owner, and pay 500 simoleons.
  • Third room for the cabin with a fireplace – 5 by 5 (to be used as a nursery/kids room or master bedroom) – (With the building of this extra room, you are now required to move all beds out of the original main cabin room. Dice Rolls this generation: (Roll EVERY Sunday at 6AM sim-time)

  1. Romantic Night – A random night of romance with your partner ends in an “oopsie”. Either adopt a new baby or try for a baby until you’re expecting! (If you’re already expecting, either try for a baby after that one is born, or adopt immediately.)
  2. Pests! – Delete 50% of your crops. You must replant them from whatever plants you have in your inventory, buying seed packs, or go out and find the wild plants again.
  3. Kind neighbor – A neighbor notices your work on your farm and gives you an extra farm patch. (You are allowed to add one farm patch to your farm if you get this roll. This is a permanent upgrade on your garden.)
  4. Wild Bunnies gone rogue – Bunnies eat your crops for the next week. Roll a die again, and you are not allowed to harvest plants for the next 1-6 days, depending on your roll.
  5. Storms! – Major storms damage part of your cabin’s roof, destroying the furniture in one room. Roll a die to decide which room is affected, then put all the furniture from that room into the family inventory permanently. You will need to rebuy it. (Does not include fireplaces!)
  6. Your Lucky Day! – You find out there was an error in the judging of the last fair, and it ended in your favor. Add one Finchwick Fair Ribbon to your total.

Generation 3: Civilization Returns

At the beginning of this Generation:

  • Build or download a National Park lot to replace the empty park lot in Bramblewood. Make sure to include a pond and a picnic spot.
  • Remove the “Cursed” Lot Challenge. You deserve the break.
  • Add in the “Valentine’s Day” holiday on the Friday of Spring. This comes with NO day off, Love Day Decorations and these traditions: Decorate, Give Flowers, Romantic Spirit, Go on a Date.
  • Place three more farm plots in your garden. (You will have to figure out how to split your current and new crops between the twelve total plots you now have. Note: If you got extra plots in the last generation, you will have more than 12 plots.)
  • Add two more trees to your orchard (for a total of four trees allowed outside of your farm plots)
  • Reset your count of completed errands. You start from 0 each generation.
  • Reset your family funds to 0 (but keep everything you’ve built and the items saved up in your treasure chest)
  • Reset your count of ribbons earned to 0.
  • You are now allowed to Buy Starter Flower Seeds, as well as Oversized Pumpkin & Mushroom Seeds
  • You can now add flowers to your laundry to make it smell better. (I advise against adding food crops.. lol)

Generation Goals:

  • Get married and have at least 3 children
  • Raise your heir to young adult stage
  • Complete all the unlockables for the generation

Unlockables for this Generation:

  • Bee Box (You can buy as many as you think you can handle.) Complete 10 errands for the Creature Keeper and have 1000 in the bank.
  • Connecting the outhouse to the house & having indoor plumbing (unlocks toilets, bathtubs, and sinks – however, you can still only have one bathroom). Max Handiness on your main sim and pay 1500 for the permit to move the outhouse to the side of your cabin.
  • Foundations & Decks (uncovered), short stairs (i.e. deck stairs, not full between floor stairs), and the ability to build fences. Once this is unlocked, add a foundation to your home with at least one uncovered & fenced-in deck & stairs to get to the front door. Complete 20 total errands (for anyone) and pay 1500 for the contractors to build your new deck.
  • Woodworking Bench (and using & selling woodworking items) – Can now also USE & sell upgrade parts you don’t need from the inventory. Yes, this means you are now allowed to upgrade items on your lot. (This does not unlock the types of items that can be made from the bench, (example: you can make a mirror, but it only unlocks THAT mirror, not the rest of the mirrors) Also: as soon as you unlock the woodworking bench, you get a BONUS unlock of the toddler play blocks!) Complete 30 errands, have gotten one ribbon from a fair, and have 750 in the bank.
  • Adding a dining area to the kitchen (main) room using the dining table and chairs from your woodworking. Other chairs and tables are not yet unlocked. Complete 5 errands for the grocery store owner or deliverer, and build the furnishings for the dining area.
  • Toddler Furniture: Large Stuffed Animals. Get one of your toddlers to Top Notch Toddler (by maxing out all their skills before they age up).
  • Child furniture: Monkey bars & Toy Boxes. Complete the Artistic Prodigy Aspiration on one of your children.

Skills unlocked this Generation:

  • Beekeeping (not actually a skill, but worth mentioning)

Crops unlocked this Generation:

  • Oversized Pumpkin
  • Oversized Mushroom
  • Carrot
  • Plantain
  • Bluebell
  • Daisy

Dice Rolls this generation: (Roll EVERY Sunday at 6AM sim-time)

  1. Bears! – You and your family are stuck in the house for the entire day (this is for a full 24 hours – you are all allowed back out on Monday at 6 AM), and when you come out, your berries are gone, and the bee boxes are destroyed. You must replant any berry bushes from your own stock, buy new ones at the market, or harvest from the wild again. Bee boxes must be put in the family inventory permanently, and if you want a replacement, you must re-buy them.
  2. You’re not supposed to hit your finger! – You made a major blunder while building your latest woodworking project. You cannot do anything with that hand for the next two days. That includes handiness, gardening, cooking, fishing, beekeeping, violin… basically anything that requires two hands. If anything like that needs to be done, your other family members must do it. (Restriction lifts on Tuesday at 6AM)
  3. Honey, I’m Sweet on You! – If you don’t have a significant other, you have a week to find one and take them on a date. If you do, you still only have a week to find time for a one on one date and some alone time with your sweetie. (If it’s spring, this is in ADDITION to the date you take for Valentine’s Day.) During said Date night, you must Try for Baby at least once. (Yes, even if you have all the kids required for this generation!)
  4. Not Up to Code! – Your new deck collapses. Pay 2000 to have it cleared, cleaned up, and rebuilt up to the correct standards.
  5. Flooded! – Apparently a family of beavers got into your woodworking supplies. They built a dam in an unfortunate location, and now your garden plots are flooded. You manage to save some of it, but not all. Sell half of your plants and replant what you can from your own stock, purchase new from the vendors or seed packets, or harvest from the wild. (This does NOT affect your orchard.)
  6. The Mayor Approves! – Your new honey products inspire the mayor to find it in their heart to approve the planting of two new fruit trees in your orchard. (You are allowed to add two trees to your existing orchard when you roll this. This is a permanent upgrade on your orchard.)

Generation 4: Little House in the Countryside

At the beginning of this Generation:

  • Remove the “Filthy” Lot Challenge. You deserve the break.
  • Add in the “Thanksgiving” holiday on the Thursday of Fall. This comes with a day off, Harvestfest decorations and these traditions: Decorate, Garden, Thankful Spirit, Invite Guests. (Don’t add the gnomes tradition, or the grand meal tradition, since gnomes are too easy for money, and the meal can’t be cooked off the grid.) Bonus Unlock: The Decorations box.
  • Place three more farm plots in your garden (You will have to figure out how to split your current and new crops between the fifteen total plots you now have. Note: If you got extra plots in generation 2, you will have more than 15 plots.)
  • Add two more trees to your orchard (for a total of six trees allowed outside of your farm plots)
  • A MAJOR DIFFERENCE for this generation from the others: the plants that get unlocked this generation are NOT unlocked at the beginning of the generation. Rather, they must be unlocked DURING play.
  • Set the Campground lot in Granite Falls to have the following lot challenges: Gremlins, Grody, Off-the-grid, Simple Living, and Wild Foxes. (in other words, “vacation” does not get you away from your troubles!) If you want one there, add a woohoo bush to the lot.
  • Reset your count of completed errands. You start from 0 each generation.
  • Reset your family funds to 0 (but keep everything you’ve built and the items saved up in your treasure chest)
  • Reset your count of ribbons earned to 0.

Generation Goals:

  • Get married and have at least 4 children
  • Raise your heir to young adult stage
  • Complete all the unlockables for the generation

Unlockables for this Generation:

  • Travel to Granite Falls (on “vacations” – the only available rental lot for you is the Campground lot with the lot challenges added!), and the Hermit’s Hut in Granite Falls. This also unlocks the Herbalism skill, as well as all the plants. If you are traveling to get the plants, the travel MUST be done during the summer because that’s when all the Outdoor Retreat plants are available to be found on the landscape (if you pick other plants that are not unlocked, they must be put in your treasure chest until they’re unlocked)! If you are traveling for insects, other season travel is allowed, but you will not be allowed to pick any plants you find. All Travel on vacations must be done with the whole family!! (Remember, each round trip to another world will cost you 100 simoleons. This is a fee on top of the rental cost, which you still must pay. You will also need to bring your own camping essentials, or plan to buy them when you arrive. The only things that are there for you by default are the grill, firepit, picnic table, trash, and horseshoe pit, although you are welcome to add a woohoo bush for free before traveling. Make sure you have tent lodging for all family members that you bring!) Final note/tip: If you have toddlers – do not forget to bring stuff for them to do, and a toddler potty. These are not available in Granite Falls! This unlocks automatically upon the first Summer Sunday at 6 am. In other words, if you start in the middle of summer, you must wait until the NEXT summer to travel to Granite Falls for the first time!!!
  • Covered Porches & Columns to support them (but not enclosed!) Complete 5 errands for either the Village Mayor or the Pub owner (who puts in a good word for you), and pay a fee 1000 per covered porch you wish to build. (You must build at least one during this generation!)
  • “Working” Well(s) (if you have Eco Lifestyle) – basically, this unlocks the Dew Collectors. I suggest “hiding” one inside one of the visual wells from other packs using move objects on and shrinking the dew collector with the “[” key (this is optional, btw). This also unlocks the ability to “sell” any extra water you collect with your collectors to make money. Bonus Unlock: Bathroom sinks! (Obviously, use the off-the-grid ones) Complete 10 errands for either the Village Mayor or the Pub Owner for EACH dew collector you wish to purchase, and have 1300 simoleons in the bank for each (this allows purchase of the better collectors). This is on TOP of the 5 errands you must do for the covered porches. (this requirement lifts once this generation is over)
  • Chicken Coops (this unlocks the ability to buy and sell eggs as well. Does NOT unlock chicken clothes.) Bonus unlock: The ability to fence in your chicken coop if you would like. Complete 10 errands for the Creature Keeper to unlock purchasing your first chicken coop. If you wish to purchase any additional coops, you must do 10 more errands for the Creature keeper per coop (this requirement lifts once this generation is over). You must also have at least 500 Simoleons in your bank for each coop you wish to purchase.
  • Purchasing Chickens: For each chicken you purchase (this is not necessary if the chicken was bred and hatched by you!): Complete 2 errands for the Creature Keeper, and have enough Simoleons in your bank to cover the cost. (this requirement lifts once this generation is over) Remember: if you roll a 1 and have to get rid of all your chickens, you WILL have to do more errands to purchase new chickens!! (If your chicken dies due to old age or foxes, however, you can re-purchase without errands.)
  • Use, creation, and sale of all Animal Treats This unlocks once you have 30 total errands completed (for anyone). The recipes are unlocked through the normal means – you may have those unlocked long before being allowed to make them.
  • Adding a full Dining Room to the house. (a 6 by 5 room with a fireplace.) This also unlocks hutches (dish storage), upper cabinets for the kitchen, and arch-style doors. This unlocks once you have 40 completed errands (for anyone), pay a 1000 building permit fee, and have at least 3000 in the bank (1000 of this must be spent for the fee, the rest is available to build the room).
  • Adding a full Living Room to the house (7 by 5 room with a fireplace). (This also unlocks couches, living chairs, large bookcases, LLama/card game tables (not chess!) and coffee tables) This unlocks once you have unlocked the full Dining Room, have earned 4 Finchwick Fair Ribbons (of any type), pay a 1000 Simoleon building permit fee, and have at least 3000 in the bank (1000 of this must be spent for the fee, the rest is available to build the room).
  • Guitar skill and purchasing guitars. Complete the Outdoor Enthusiast Aspiration on your main sim.

Skills unlocked this Generation:

  • Guitar
  • Herbalism

  • Toxic Chamomile
  • Elderberry
  • Noxious Elderberry
  • Fireleaf
  • Poison Fireleaf

  • Muckleberry
  • Morel Mushroom
  • False Morel Mushroom

Dice Rolls this generation: (Roll EVERY Sunday at 6AM sim-time)

  1. Bird Flu Scare!! – The latest avian flu is racing through the township, and all chickens must be put down for safety. Use the “actions” menu on each chicken to trade them for treats or ingredients (NOT Meat or Simoleons!) Also, all hatchable eggs must be destroyed (drag them to a trash can). (You will need to complete additional errands and spend the money to buy new, healthy chickens from out of town.)
  2. Holey Tent! – While getting ready for vacation, you discover that the snazzy new tent you bought has been chewed to pieces while in storage! (Put your most expensive tent into family inventory permanently, and you must replace it out of your household funds. If you do not own a tent yet – REROLL!)
  3. Happy Chickens make Happy Neighbors – The local grocery vendors are so happy with your constant supply of extra eggs that they decide to help your flock increase! They bring you two new hen chicks. (if you don’t have enough room for them, you must build another chicken coop to house them, or get rid of enough chickens to make space for them.)
  4. Fox Attack! – Your prize rooster has disappeared overnight. The only thing left of him is some feathers and a hole in your chicken coop’s fence. Your insurance company reimburses you for the loss. (Use the actions menu on one of your roosters, and trade him for simoleons. This chicken must be replaced with your own funds, but you will not need to do more errands to purchase him. *If you don’t have any roosters at the time you roll this.. YOU MUST REROLL!)
  5. Allergic to Poison Ivy!! – While camping (or hiking near home), you or one of your family members finds out rather suddenly that they’re terribly allergic to poison ivy. They are rushed to the hospital for treatment. (All family members must cut the current holiday trip short – if you’re on vacation – and return home immediately (you will lose all rental fees already paid), as well as pay the hospital bill of 2000.)
  6. A Special Dispensation From the Mayor – The profitability and usefulness of your farm has become known to the mayor, and he surprises you with a permit to add one additional farm plot to your garden!! (This will be cumulative and add to the total of plots you are allowed to have from now on.)

At the beginning of this Generation:

I am a 47 year old American wife, mother, and gamer. I’ve lived in the Midwest most of my life, and enjoy it for the changing seasons. My favorite movie is Labyrinth, my favorite game is Sims 4, and I have tattoos related to both. My favorite colors are purple, red, and green. When I’m not playing games (which is rare) I also enjoy reading and crafting. I’m also an animal lover, and have had many types of pets over the years. Currently, I have a dog named Cassie who is a Jack Russel / Beagle mix and five young fancy rats (all of whom are rescues). I run this Sims 4 Blog where I post screenshots and stories about the different challenges I play. Also here are the Sims 4 challenges I've written, and a place for me to store all the Sims 4 knowledge I've gotten over the years. I am also a Sims 4/variety streamer on Twitch for my mental health, fun, and to meet new people. I am also in the EA Creator Network and an Ubisoft Partner, which is a dream come true! I look forward to meeting you!
