This is an original challenge, based on the same premise as the Asylum Challenge. It is currently only written for streamers, and is very much still in testing. As soon as testing is done, I will take this notice off. Also: if you’re interested, I will be adapting this to solo play, as well, so … watch for that in the next few weeks. Lastly, I must include a DISCLAIMER: this is NOT meant to mimic anything in real life, mental illness is real, but this challenge is not meant to portray it in any way. This is a game, everyone, and this is about having fun. If you’re struggling with real mental illness, PLEASE.. seek help – you are important!
This is a three-phase challenge that revolves around the original Asylum Challenge – and just like that challenge, is written with three difficulties. I have, however, made significant changes, so it may be inspired by the Asylum Challenge, but it no longer is even close to the same challenge.
The first phase has your group of sims locked in a mental ward, and because they cannot leave (for their own safety), the only way they can “prove” that they are ready to be released is by completing successful projects while dealing with their fellow patients and the hardships of the hospital. For gameplay sake, all nurses, doctors, orderlies, etc.. are simply imagined, and any room that would be dedicated to them should remain locked to the patients.
In the second phase, your group of sims have been released (the ones that earned it and survived, that is..) to the care of a Halfway House, where their rehabilitation begins. To be fully released, they must raise their skills to a certain level, show that they can be successful in their career, and also complete one or more Aspirations.
In the third phase, the sims who have made it this far are fully released, and are going on about their life. This is a SCORED phase, and to “WIN” the challenge, one sim must get the highest point total (points are given for positive life goals, and points subtracted for negative ones!). If this sounds interesting, feel free to read on!
Do not, at any time, check the other sims’ needs and aspirations – you can only control and care for your currently selected “main” Sim.
Lifespan should be set to “Short”
Aging must remain “OFF” for ALL sims (until the third phase, but I’ll explain that when you get there)
Seasons Should be set to 14 days.
Full autonomy must be on for all sims, including your main sim.
Any deceased sim’s tombstone must be kept in the on-site graveyard.
Remember: you may have active control over ONE sim at any time, unless redeems tell you otherwise…
Likes and Dislikes: All pop-up questions about whether a sim likes or dislikes something MUST be answered with “YES”. (Whether or not that’s a good or bad thing..!)
Money is no object in the first two phases. The facilities are well-funded. Feel free to use kaching or motherlode at your discretion. Phase Three is different, however, so no money cheats there.
Building: Once each challenge phase is officially started, there is NO building or changing items that are on the current lot except for when there is a redeem that says otherwise.
Repairing: This is the currently controlled sims’s responsibility. You may also choose to pay to replace a broken object if you so desire.
Occult sims ARE allowed – however, if you choose to include a vampire, either cheat them to have the daylight immunity and whatever other perks you choose (as a master vampire, because that’s what level they need to be to be immune to sunlight), and equip them with plasma packs for the duration, or expect them to have serious problems with this challenge. Another way to handle it is possibly to lock them in solitary during any outdoor “tastes of freedom” trips, and, again, equip them with plasma packs.
IF A COWPLANT IS INCLUDED on your lot at any time: Only the controlled sim may (and actually MUST) milk the cowplant, and then drink the essence. Doesn’t matter whose essence, or what type – good or bad, the controlled sim must drink it if the cowplant needs milking.
YOU WILL NEED MCCC to play this challenge. Some of the chaotic things that can happen can only be accomplished through the use of this mod (or something similar – but I highly recommend MCCC.)
Bust the Dust: I suggest having this completely disabled for the entire challenge.
Celebrity System: disable this.
Eco Lifestyle: Turn off NPC voting.
High School Years: at no time during the challenge are you permitted to follow a teen to school.
Getting Started:
Create 8-16 sims.
This is where it’s a good idea to get your community involved. Every sim MUST have the Erratic trait and be a Young Adult. (I suggest adding this as a fourth trait with cheats or MCCC to allow all sims to be as different as possible.) Be aware if you choose to “overstuff” your household, you will have to be using mods (MCCC), and be careful about how you enter CAS, as if you go into CAS wrong, you will lose sims. For additional fun, Have your community create the other sims you include.
Feel free to give them likes and dislikes. Be aware that if you DON’T – they will make up their own “mind” during play.
Compatibility: Feel free to set this as you wish.
Build an Asylum, or download one, or use the one I made. All accessible items must be of the lowest price and/or quality when they are initially placed in the ward for patient use. This asylum should have:
A lockable ward with: 1-2 single beds in each 8 small bedrooms, 3 skill building objects of your choice, a single full bathroom (sink, toilet, tub, and shower), a rudimentary kitchen accessible to patients (sink, fridge, 1 free counter, an oven/stove, and a fire alarm), two small “padded” solitary rooms empty other than the door, a “therapy” room for patients to “meet with the doctor”, a locked surveillance room for the staff (which won’t really exist), security cameras, a small table with one chair for eating. You can choose between EITHER a tv or a desk with chair and computer. For the skill items, you cannot pick anything that will use more than two chairs (you are allowed a maximum of four chairs to start with). Also make sure there is plenty of room to add new skill-building or recreation objects inside the ward.
Also on the property, but not necessarily in the ward: fire extinguisher box, graveyard, and possibly an underground “morgue”. Feel free to decorate and build the areas outside the ward as a full “hospital” – just make sure the patients cannot access it.
Outside: a lockable garden area with plots of land to grow on, as well as a fishing pond for patients to fish in. There can be benches for sitting out here – this won’t count against your ward seating total. There should also be a bathroom of some type outside that cannot be taken away (a bush does count for this requirement). Redeems ARE allowed to add things outside (or remove) – but be aware those items can only be used when there was a redeem to let the patients out.
Move your patients into the asylum, and lock them into the ward. Use “Freerealestate” cheat if you need to.
Make sure every sim starts with the same skills (at or below level 1), and the same chance to complete tasks. (either use cheats to reset skills on all sims, or MCCC.) One example of this – if you have Nifty Knitting, give all sims their own knitting bag. I suggest banning Cross Stitch, because it’s simply too hard to regulate giving all sims the canvases they might need at any time.
I am a 47 year old American wife, mother, and gamer. I’ve lived in the Midwest most of my life, and enjoy it for the changing seasons. My favorite movie is Labyrinth, my favorite game is Sims 4, and I have tattoos related to both. My favorite colors are purple, red, and green. When I’m not playing games (which is rare) I also enjoy reading and crafting. I’m also an animal lover, and have had many types of pets over the years. Currently, I have a dog named Cassie who is a Jack Russel / Beagle mix and five young fancy rats (all of whom are rescues). I run this Sims 4 Blog where I post screenshots and stories about the different challenges I play. Also here are the Sims 4 challenges I've written, and a place for me to store all the Sims 4 knowledge I've gotten over the years. I am also a Sims 4/variety streamer on Twitch for my mental health, fun, and to meet new people. I am also in the EA Creator Network and an Ubisoft Partner, which is a dream come true! I look forward to meeting you!
