Welcome to my cleverly titled “Broomstick Files” challenge. *chuckles* I wanted to play around with the new “Realm of Magic” pack, and this was one of the first challenges I found that piqued my interest. I started the challenge, and continued with play.. and then I took my break from sims. When I came back, I re-read the rules to help re-familiarize myself with the challenge…. and I discovered something rather major. I’d already messed up. Instead of having the heir in the way the rules stated, I had gotten married and done things the way I usually would. I’d built a house that I adored, and had played for quite a while. Because of this, I considered just continuing, but I hate breaking challenge rules. So I thought about just using the sim I had saved from the start of my challenge and just starting over.. but that felt wrong, too. So, being addicted to starting challenges as I am, I made a new sim.. and started COMPLETELY over. Which meant a couple things. One, I needed a new house, because a starter sim couldn’t afford the one I had built for the other sim. And two, I had to change my new signature/header graphic to reflect the different sim. Oh, and it also meant all the pictures I had taken and organized for the beginning of the challenge were useless.

And – just because I’m a glutton for punishment, the threads of a story had already started dancing in the back of my head, and wouldn’t let me go. I had initially planned to just go commentary style, because it’s infinitely easier… but I couldn’t get the story out of my head, even while playing the beginning of the challenge. Everything my sim did just solidified the story, and made things more and more “real”. So… against my better judgement… and after hours and hours of deliberation and arguing with myself.. I’ve decided that this will become my fourth current challenge that’s done story-style.

So far, so good. Now back to playing.

Blaze immediately finds the lump of clay.. and finally someone makes something out of it.

We let Brynlee in, but she seems annoyed that she was left to stand there for so long.

She ends up playing chess (or just chatting, not sure which) with Keon while Cassidy sleeps.

Keon stares blankly at the bookshelf. You know, you could actually read something for more than five minutes…

Zara decides to make a mess… while Keon busies himself with the clay.

Aha.. so that’s where Brynlee went. Chatting with her nephew.

Dinner time. Zara foregoes this and is in the bathroom instead.

… What mess certainly wasn’t there for very long. Thanks, Keon.

Ha. The clay both got turned into stuff. Don’t think I’ve seen the one on the right before.

Cassidy is VERY pregnant. And we need money in a bad way. So we’re painting.

Keon takes a midnight swim. This family is one of the first families I’ve had who actually uses a pool I gave them.

First day of school! …. Blaze.. what are you WEARING?!

Keon working on his Wellness skill. Least someone is. Cassidy never has time! (I’m actually a little concerned whether I’ll have time to get everything done…)

See? Keon LOVES this pool.

I add a dollhouse, and Zara finds it almost immediately.

Doing homework while standing up? That’s a new one.

A little montage. Cassidy had to spar for work… and it seemed a little dangerous while pregnant.

It’s time!!

Welcome baby boy, Cayden.

I then take a moment to spend what little money we have on the house. Because I had this sunroom idea that seemed to fit in with the theme of the house. No money for windows.. but you get the idea.

Here’s where we are value wise. 20k to go.

Cassidy cleaning house. Someone always seems to be cleaning in this household. Plus, it’s Springfest.. so it counts for the holiday.

Blaze finds the dollhouse, too. While Cassidy spends HOURS talking to herself in a mirror. Charisma is once again needed for her promotion. And since we need to be making money, getting Charisma up seems like a good idea.

Springfest, so Flower Bunny shows up. Blaze takes advantage of his mom not paying attention to make a mess.

Keon… you know that’s there for the kids, right? … Keon?

There. That’s better. You supervise. (Oh, and clearly he’s been in the pool again recently. He’s always in his swim trunks.)

Cassidy is still.. yes.. talking to herself. Keon cleans up, and the kids chat. They’re really close friends, because they spend a lot of time together.

I just love this family. They’re so cute together. Always socializing.

**ON HIATUS**

This challenge is an 8 generation challenge, with each generation based on a different board game, with the whole challenge being based on a monopoly board. I am a huge fan of board games, so I figured this challenge was right up my alley. I also started it during the period when I was starting to burn out on Sims, and I was desperately trying new things to get my interest back. Spoiler – it didn’t get my interest back – I ended up taking a break, but I always come back – and now it’s time to continue this challenge. Because, of course, I need more challenges to do. Originally, I was going to take the rules for Sims 2 and adapt them myself for Sims 4, but before starting, I found out that the challenge creator actually had a Sims 4 version of them – which was GREAT news!

This is, unfortunately, another challenge that got put on hold. Simply because I hadn’t gotten very far along on it. Not enough, even, to get attached to it.

Welcome/Contents/Links | Chapter 1.2

I’m a big fan of board games in general, so when I found the Board Game challenge, I was immediately interested. Finding a Sims 4 version a bit later, was all the incentive I needed.

So it begins. I started it a while ago, and took a few pictures. I was on a tear of starting new things, and getting to a point where I was bored of Sims. I was hoping starting some new stuff would mean I didn’t need a break, but it didn’t happen. I saved the pictures and the save, however, with every intention to come back to it when my interest in Sims came back. Well, it’s back.. and it’s time to get to work on this.

Before we start, I need to introduce our founder.

Oh, and if you can’t tell, the color theme for this generation is purple. Which is great, because it’s one of my favorite colors!

…And so this is where the story starts.

Amaranthe starts out in the painting career.. and I work her so hard she has to watch her tiny TV almost every day after work. She meets several islanders at the welcome party (shown in the featured picture) .. and ends up trying a couple Kava parties, but has no luck (yet) at getting the gold she needs for her aspiration.

Her first “summon Island Elementals” pays off, and she finds one of them who seems to have some nice looks, as well as decent traits. Score!

Every spare second is spent painting. Since we have to PAY to have kids.. and a honeymoon, every dime is appreciated.

Hawea (the Island Elemental I’m trying to woo..) .. invites us to the Spice festival. So of course, we drop the painting and go.

Luckily the Spice fest has food, because poor Amaranthe was starving. Dunno about Hawea, though. Do ghosts like tofu dogs??

Such a fun, colorful place to be. We remember to harvest the plants for possible cash inflow, and try out the bubble blower.

After buying our required festival shirt for the event, we sit and chat until her energy run out.. and send her home.

Looks like such a peaceful place to have a bath. Which is good, because she doesn’t own a shower – yet.

Hawea invites us out to the lounge for the evening, and it happens to be Neighborhood Brawl day… So we find someone to fight.

Apparently ghosts don’t do karaoke .. but Amaranthe is game to try it.

.. Really? doing your uni homework at a lounge?? .. I mean.. multitasking.. I guess?

There’s so much going on in this screenshot I don’t even know where to start. There’s the guy on the microphone, reciting sonnets to… no one. The celebrity watching us fighting with a ghost… and the chick in the swimsuit who could give a rat’s rear end as to anything going on. And still.. how exactly do you get in a position in a fight to have your feet that far in the air?? .. and Still win the fight. I’m confused.

After the next night’s (mostly failed) Kava party (that I apparently got no pictures of).. this lady just wouldn’t leave. I couldn’t ask her to, and she just spent the whole night/morning at our house.. chatting, cleaning house, and generally making herself an annoyance. Although the house cleaning was okay. I didn’t have to clean up after the party, at least.

We summon Island Elementals, ask for judgement.. and get in a flirty mood. Perfect. Soon as we’re allowed, we give him a key to our place.. and start the flirt train.

Luckily, he’s into us. (I also chuckle, because his mood shows as “hysterical” .. and all I could think was “Well at least ghosts can’t die…”

Success! Hey, Mikie, I think he really likes us!

Well.. at least I thought he did…. what’s with the meteor?!

… Are you saying we’re “hot stuff”??  (Couldn’t help it. Sorry. =P)

This was happening while I was getting a notice that above meteor had started a fire on our lot. And that Amaranthe discovered the fire. I’m not sure how… because to my eyes, she was definitely too busy to notice a fire on the lot…  Oh.. and ALSO while this was happening, Caleb Vatore (Vampire townie) showed up at the door.. knocked, then promptly let himself in to take a hot bath in our bathtub. While the fire was raging. I send her to put out the fire, and by that time, Caleb was done with his spa night and had left, so I never got a picture. I was laughing so hard I was nearly crying, though.

Love Day.. and Hawea invites us to Center Park in Myshuno (what is his deal with the city??) for a real date. While we’re at work. So did we leave work early? .. Of course!

While on the date, we get the relationship bar high enough to ask him to move in.. and somehow, he turns human when he does so. Not going to complain, but it was still weird. Oh yeah.. as soon as he moves in, Amaranthe asks him to marry her. He agrees… which is awesome.

And I was right about his traits. He’s a perfect partner for a founder. He wants to be a dad!

I send them immediately to get married.

… And they kiss to the sound of rockets going off.

… Another successful courtship completed.

As per the rules, I immediately send them on a honeymoon. The rules don’t specifically say how LONG it has to be, though, so I pick an ambiguous 3 day stretch.. and I pack her easel, because there’s not much to do in Granite Falls.

Well, other than the obvious honeymoon things. And eating.

Well, I guess a figure painting is appropriate. Since you now have a model to paint…

Working on our cooking skill. There’s no oven in this house, though, so we safely make salads instead of braving the campfire outside.

.. Unexpectedly, it’s Harvestfest.. and Hawea immediately ticks off a gnome. Who breaks everything. So Amaranthe gets some handiness. And we pick up all the seeds that the gnome that Amaranthe succeeded in pleasing drops for us… then promptly sell the gnomes. Hey, money is tight, alright? (well, no I guess it’s not. We got 20k for moving Hawea in… but still. We have to move after this generation, so I better start saving!! I briefly considered getting rid of the money he moved in with.. but there’s nothing in the rules about it.. so I ended up keeping it.)

Hawea keeps distracting her from painting, so I send him out to get fish for dinner. Spoiler alert: he only catches a couple of coolers and some weeds…. so no to the fish dinner.

Then, I notice that Hawea is definitely looking a bit worse for wear. Apparently standing out in the cold fishing most the night was a bad call on my part.

… So we let him pester Amaranthe while painting for a while.

… Great. Amaranthe is now sick, too. What a fabulous honeymoon. I finally decide to send them home half a day early, because they’re both dazed and miserable. We remember to pack the easel.

First thing we do when we get home: get Hawea a job. Due to his love of kids, and rather ambiguous trait set, we have him pick up an Education career. Plus, it’s still new to me.. so that’s cool.

I then decide I’ve had enough playing for one night.. and decide to upgrade their home before I quit. I spend about half their money, but I like the results.

I also buy them a “real” bed – or at least a better one, but I forgot to get a picture of that.

… And it leaves us with enough room to start a family. Which we’ll do next time. Meanwhile, we’ve made a good start to Generation One! See you next time!

One thing I forgot to do in my first post, is show you guys the towns I spent so much time on. My sims will only be able to travel to these two worlds when out of disguise, and most of the venues they’ll be using are in these two areas. The houses in oasis springs are built by anchesenamon, who did a whole alien themed neighborhood there, and I took the houses and ran with the theme for the Newcrest neighborhood. A couple of the Newcrest homes/ venues are built by me, or at the very least, edited to be what I needed. One build in particular I spent a lot of time on is the pool venue in the far left of the map.

Anyway, that being said… off we go. I load in to babies already, even though I think I had saved when Malakai was still pregnant. Remind me not to save on a pregnant sim again. Or, at least, I don’t remember the babies being born…. although they’re both named with “C” names, so maybe I did name them. I just don’t have pictures from it.

We’ll introduce Carson and Cora just the same. Carson is our first possibility for an heir, which is nice. Although I doubt he’ll be the one to take over – we have lots of babies still to go.

Malakai tries taking a break to get some “fun” in – by watching the Cooking channel – but it doesn’t last long. At this point, his fun is almost always in the red. Poor guy. I feel bad for him.

It’s here that I notice two things. One – our plants are alive again. I think I replanted them? Or maybe it was miraculous spontaneous regeneration? And Two – somehow this room doesn’t register as being “outside” because the “roof” – the floor above – doesn’t cover all the tiles. So he’s freaking out about the lightning storm while being “inside”. I fix that.

And this is Allie, Brielle, and Bridget gathering around the TV. At least one of them is doing something productive.

It’s here that I realize that Brielle (this one) and her twin, Bridget, look very much alike. (Oh and yeah, it’s definitely Monday. Project day.)

With all four of the kids having A’s, it’s time to start aging them up. Apparently, if I’d been watching closer, I would have already aged them up… but, I was a bad watcher, and didn’t notice.

I messed up and accidentally rolled for an adult job, because teens can’t do the dive job, so I just gave her a lifeguard one.

So pretty!

And now it’s Allie’s turn. While Ariel does her homework, of course.

Interesting trait mix.. it should be fun to see what she gets when she gets past teen.

I have both girls get their lifeguard jobs, then send them off to start working on skills.

I buy a workout machine… they need fitness for their job, and couldn’t hurt them to lose some weight, either. I clearly need to start making salads for my sims.

Off for a jog… gotta get those skill points!

Carson: “Daddy? What’s wrong?”

Malakai: “Curse the Watcher, I am having weird tummy aches AGAIN.”

I wait until the next day to age up the teens.. and wouldn’t you know it, someone stole some of the cake, so I have to make an entire new one. So here’s Brielle, finally getting her cake.

I missed the screenshot for some reason, but that’s what she rolled. (And .. sorry, love, but you will have to deal without being a vampire. LOL)

She’s absolutely stunning, though.

Oh, finally. some nice traits. And with painting as her aspiration, maybe she’ll be able to get us some simoleons. Since Malakai NEVER has time to write!

I immediately buy her an easel and put her to work.

After another cold breakfast on my cooler, I sat down to really start reading my book on vampires. It was an interesting, but also creepy, read. Finally, I hit a point where my skin was just crawling all over, and I needed to take a break. Plus, my easel was calling to me.

So, I pulled out some canvas and paint and started by painting the cruel beauty from around my land. It turned out far better than my earlier works. I could see that practice was definitely paying off.

I moved that painting to let it dry, got another canvas ready, then decided I ought to spend some time with my garden, too. Always something to do around here. While I was knee-deep in plants, my phone rang. It was Sonia, and she offered to take me into Windenburg on her way there to do some errands.

Thinking about Alex, I quickly agreed, and Sonia headed into town. After a stop off at the gallery to sell my newest work – for a tidy sum, no less – Sonia and I decided to visit the cafe. I, of course, had ulterior motives, and was pleased to see Alex was already working. I introduced her to Sonia, and whipped out a daisy I had brought to try to charm Alex.

Charm her, it did.. but she couldn’t get off work for the evening, so we made plans for the next weekend. With a light heart, I ordered some coffee and pastries, and sat down to a nice meal with Sonia. Sonia slyly commented that Alex seemed like such a nice girl, and seemed to watch her with almost a motherly look in her eyes.

Feeling better than I had in ages, I decided to stick around town after Sonia went home – and check out Windenburg nightlife. It turned out there was quite a party happening at some ruins on the outskirts of town, and I decided to join in on the dancing.

The music was pounding in my head, and seemed to echo my heart… until I noticed that unnerving old Vampire (for, now, I was sure that’s what he was…) who knew my family was also there. Quickly, I tried to busy myself with my phone in the hopes that either he wouldn’t notice me, or he would think I was too busy to talk.

Neither approach worked, and before I knew it, he had cornered me, insisting that we talk. He needed to tell me more of my history, it seemed, and he invited me to his Forgotten Hollow mansion for an after-party coffee.

Initially, I agreed, and we both made our ways home. But after seeing the state of his mansion – and the age of it, I really started to worry for my safety. Before he could answer the door, I hurriedly left and returned to my homestead, thoroughly creeped out.

There was a Romance festival back in the city the next night, and Sonia and I made a day trip of it. She said she had always sworn by the soothsayers there, and something in my head wanted me to ask them about Alex. Unfortunately, the sage had dire news. He gave me some cryptic information, making it sound like I should avoid Alex, but I think I was too hooked to heed his words.

The weekend brought with it rain, but I wasn’t going to let that stop me – and I brought some canvasses to keep me busy while I waited for Alex to get off of work for our date.

Once she was off work, we got some coffee and sat at the tables of her cafe, flirting shyly with each other. She seemed receptive to my pick up lines, and I decided now was the time to make my move.

I declared my feelings for her with the gift of a headily perfumed rose, and I couldn’t hold back a grin when she accepted it. She was busy smelling the rose, however, and didn’t see the expression on my face.

Seemingly charmed by me, she agreed to a walk on the quay in the darkness, and we left the cafe hand in hand.

The time and the conversation flew by and quickly all blurred together. I was enchanted by her dark eyes and coy looks, and she was seemingly as interested in me as I was in her.

By the time we made it back to her cafe, I felt the night couldn’t be going any better, and I steeled myself up for the ultimate risk.

One mostly chaste, but somehow still steamy kiss later.. and Alex had agreed to be my girlfriend.

I commemorated the night with a cheesy picture.. but I was so in love, I couldn’t help it.

The next day, I couldn’t think of anything to paint other than flirty paintings of Alex.. so that’s what I painted. All day. We had agreed to meet again in a couple days, and I simply couldn’t wait to see her again. I was leery to show her exactly where and how I was living, though, so we had settled on meeting at the cafe in Windenburg again.

Time wasn’t going to pass by fast enough, I was sure… But, inexorably, time always does. Soon it was the day of my next date with Alex, and I quickly cleaned myself up and made ready to go.

Keon is taking care of Zara again. Thankfully. Someone needs to! Since I’m aiming for Top Notch Toddler with Blaze, and that will take all of Cassidy’s time this week.

Potty training.. (And somehow … through this whole week.. Blaze is the LEAST “fussy” toddler I’ve ever had with that trait. He’s so easy to deal with, and hardly EVER Fussy.)

Reading Blaze to sleep … while Dad haunts and cleans the house. Or, at least the dishes.

… But he broke the sink. And there’s other stuff to clean. (How long has it been since that sink was cleaned????)

Dinner time! The twins are SO cute, I can’t get over it!

Hey, Brynlee, instead of just chatting with Zara, how about you change her diaper or give her a bath? … Or wash the dishes?

.. One of the few times this play-week that I have time to work on house goals. We don’t get very far.

It’s Winterfest! I drag Keon into helping decorate.

Almost Tofu Turkey time. (Yum??) Blaze looks completely confused. “How is that even called Turkey, mom?”

Presents for all! Cassidy gets pet poop… (LOL), both kids get lumps of clay, and .. I forgot what Keon got. But it wasn’t useful.

Yay! Someone’s cleaning while I work on Blaze’s skills some more! (Hey, that potty needs cleaning too, while you’re at it, Keon..)

Father Winter gives Cassidy… upgrade parts. Woo. I think. Hey Keon, you could ask for your own present instead of standing around looking jealous. But NOO… that’s not an autonomous action!

… Neither’s that. But it’s time for a brother or sister!

I don’t take Cassidy’s pregnancy test, since the kids are still toddlers. We’ll let them find out naturally.

.. There’s no streamers, but the notification of baby incoming just popped up!

Finishing getting Zara to Happy Toddler with a level three in all skills. Blaze, however…

… Rolled Klepto. *facepalm* .. but at least he got Top Notch Toddler. I think that’s the best result I’ve ever gotten from uncontrollable toddler twins…

Blaze impersonates a Vampire while getting into bed. (Ok, so he’s not.. but it looks like it.) This is the new room I added on… with what little funds we have. Since there’s another baby(S) incoming, I figure I don’t want to sell the toddler stuff. It’s not like I have the extra money to support it. I actually remembered to put a roof on the addition, too. YAY!

Happy Birthday… with a “healthy” cake. (Yum?) .. And who put the clay on the table. That’s for food, you silly.

Zara rolls glutton. I guess that’s better than Klepto. Too bad she’s not the heir.

And she manages to snag some cake before I can get rid of it. Sneaky little Sim. Although I guess it’s okay, since it’s a “healthy” cake.

KEON! Why are you peeing on the floor??? Oh, I forgot to mention. They have a new bed. (As you probably noticed earlier.)

… While Cassidy works towards her next promotion. She’s needed two Charisma points for almost the entire week, but Blaze’s skills took priority. And it paid off! (So happy about Top Notch Toddler!)

Since the last post got too long, I decided to split it into two. So here’s part two…

We start with Tyson deciding bear form is far superior to human. And I really ought to hide those paints the kids keep finding. LOL.

… Maybe the bookshelf was a bad idea. Now there are books all over the house!

Another food-bringing party. The neighbors in Sulani are so nice!

Jesse’s “life was ending” so… time for another potion.

We bank another one to replace it.

I find out that the bookshelf being next to the computer is a bad idea. It keeps distracting him, so I move it to by the TV.

Meanwhile, Jesse gets some more fame points.

Really, Jax? … Sigh. Our first fail this session. -5

Jesse needs a kid to max a skill for his aspiration, so we start “forcing” Coty (who’s the closest to level 10) to play with the dollhouse with dear ol’ dad.

It’s Love Day. So we get some more satisfaction points by wooing Fetia all over again. Then write a Romance book about it. Because – why not?

Then.. I decide since we have the money, I might as well add a room for Jaxson, since he’s a teenager now. Here’s pictures of the remodel:

It’s basic as heck right now.. but he’s got a new bed and a loft to himself. And if you look closely, you can see I bought them a new TV, too.

And I have +10 points. Unhappy kids, but that’s ok. They’ll live.

Jesse now needs a kid to have an “A” in high school. But Jax doesn’t have the skills for it. So we torture him with chess for a couple days over the weekend. (LOL @ Jax’s bedtime shades.)

There. Now he can get an “A”. We just have to wait for Monday.

Monday after school, Jax comes home mortified, to my terror. I quickly send Jesse over to have him “work out his problems” by redirecting them. Hopefully that’ll get rid of the Mortified mood. Because that’s terrifying.

However, I did get the “A” Jesse needed for his aspiration!

I have Jesse “immortalize” himself a second way. And he’s sick when we get the picture, which makes it all the funnier. He also wrote a biography, which probably counted for those +5 points, too… but I wasn’t going to assume that was enough.

Plus, I wanted something to hang on the wall for posterity.

Keon turns out to be a GREAT dad. He was a big help when they were babies, and does most of the care of Zara, while we concentrate on teaching Blaze his skills.

Any fails that happened in that time, I guess I’ll just ignore… but it wasn’t much playtime, so I don’t think I missed much. Anyway. On we truck. The first thing I notice is I completely forgot a roof on the addition. Not to mention, Maxis’ original roof is driving me bonkers. So I fix it. And add a few windows. And buy Jesse an easel so he can stop running down the road. Which puts us down to 315 Simoleons. Ugh. Oh, he’s at 34k simoleons earned so far. Doesn’t feel like it. But that’s what the Rosebud Achievement says.

Upon loading the save, the first thing I notice is that I forgot to roof the addition. And I hate EA’s roof on the rest of the house. So I fix it.

Man, Sulani really is gorgeous. It’s almost too bad they don’t do much outside the house in this save, because Jesse is always working on his aspirations, and I can’t control anyone else.

Jesse’s first action.. fixing the sink. While Fetia showers. Hey, priorities.

..Then she goes for an ocean swim. Doesn’t that defeat the purpose of the shower??

She cleans the tub while Jesse is back working on aspirations/money making. When I fixed the roof, I spent a bunch on windows, too… and so they’re poor again. Or still. I’m not sure which.

Fetia decides to do something useful. I think.

The kids. Jesse really made some cute boys. Coty’s the one in the hat, Tyson is the blonde, and Jaxson (the first born) is the redhead.

Oh, good job. You broke it.

They’re all pretty good at doing their homework. And if they forget, Jesse is sure to remind them. Gotta get those points from grades, you know.

Another food-bringing party. Sure, guys. One less thing Jesse has to cook. Welcome!

Working from home can sometimes be annoying. Jesse has to go use a bubble blower in the Myshuno winter. Fun.
