Nostalgic Game #24 – Eternal Sonata

This is a game I got into just for the music, but I never regretted it. It’s based on the life and work of Polish pianist and composer Frédéric Chopin. The story is fictional and fantastical, but uses his music beautifully. I have put many hours into this game over the years, and it’s one that I regret never actually finishing the game.

This game was an addition to the list when I found out I could stream from an Xbox… only to find out that this is one of the games that is NOT backwards compatible in the final week before this game was on the schedule. Which is what started a very hectic week of struggling to find some way, any way.. to actually play this game and get it captured so I wouldn’t have to find a game to substitute in for it. Eventually, we did find a way – but it was truly only luck that found it, because it wasn’t something we’d even thought of. I can’t even tell you the relief I felt when we finally got it working and capturable.

Game Info:

This game came out in 2007 for Xbox 360, and 1008 for Playstation 3. It was published by Bandai Namco Games, and is an animated role-playing game. Supposedly, it has multiplayer co-op, but that’s not a way I’ve ever played the game. It’s a very classic format for the battles, where you control groups of different characters, fighting through the monsters that you encounter during the story. The main difference is in the music. All of the character’s attacks and abilities are based on music. (Which worries me slightly, the VOD might get muted… but we’ll just have to see.)

Review-wise, it got around 80 out of 100, so it was a solid game, and it seemed to be received well. I certainly enjoyed it, and so did my son. I’m hoping it isn’t too slow and boring on stream, though… so.. we’ll see how it plays out. It is rated Teen, and has a lot of sad elements, so be aware of that possible trigger.

After all these years:

As I mentioned, this is a game I really regret that I never finished. I always meant to go back and finish, at the very least, the main story… I just never got around to it. Perhaps starting this game over on stream will inspire me to go back and do just that, but we’ll have to see. I hope, at the very least, that you all enjoy me revisiting this title this week on stream!

After-thoughts:

(Will be posted after the final “play” day for this game.)

I am a 47 year old American wife, mother, and gamer. I’ve lived in the Midwest most of my life, and enjoy it for the changing seasons. My favorite movie is Labyrinth, my favorite game is Sims 4, and I have tattoos related to both. My favorite colors are purple, red, and green. When I’m not playing games (which is rare) I also enjoy reading and crafting. I’m also an animal lover, and have had many types of pets over the years. Currently, I have a dog named Cassie who is a Jack Russel / Beagle mix and five young fancy rats (all of whom are rescues). I run this Sims 4 Blog where I post screenshots and stories about the different challenges I play. Also here are the Sims 4 challenges I've written, and a place for me to store all the Sims 4 knowledge I've gotten over the years. I am also a Sims 4/variety streamer on Twitch for my mental health, fun, and to meet new people. I am also in the EA Creator Network and an Ubisoft Partner, which is a dream come true! I look forward to meeting you!
